First Experience
Rod's first experience with square dancing was at the age of eleven years old. He loved square dancing so much he became a member of the Riley Wranglers Square Dance Club in Greenfield , Indiana.
From Dancer to Caller
A few years ago, Rod had the opportunity to be a "torture caller" at the Casselberry Hoedowners Club with Gene McCullough. After that, he began working on becoming a true, blue, Square Dance Caller. Many other central Florida callers assisted Rod with help and encouragement. Those caller: Gene McCullough - Casselberry Hoedowners Pairs and Spares, John Saunders - Spindrifters and Granada Squares, Don Whitaker - Brendon Squares in Geneva, Bill Chesnut - Lake Oklawaha RV Campground in Ft McCoy, John Swindle - Dixie Squares, Whit Brown - Whirl & Twirl -Orlando and Central Florida Callers Assoc. Dances, and Bill Boyd - Garden Patch Squares.
Rod has had the opportunity to call with other talented callers in Florida. He continues to call for the Paul Place Memorial Dance, Strawberry Squares Hall and has had the pleasure of calling at the Florida State Convention for the past 2 years. He currently calls at other venues and special events throughout the State.
Wrangler Country Squares
Rod and his wife, Carol, started their own square dance club in November, 2011. Wrangler Country Squares currently dances at the Barberville Pioneer Art Settlement every Friday night. Dancing workshops for beginners is from 6:30 to 7:30 with club dancing immediately following until 9:30. They offer a wide variety of dancing including Mainstream and Plus Square Dances, along with Rounds and Line Dancing between square dance tips. A Hot-Hash dance ends the evening for those dancers brave enough to give it a whirl!

Kings Ridge Squares, Clermont, Florida, Wednesday evenings 7-9 pm.

Wrangler Country Squares, Barberville, FL, Friday evenings 6:30-9:30 pm.
